Shot Fired During Morning Prayer Service at Orland Park Mosque

The bullet broke through the dome at the mosque, during a prayer service at 6 a.m.

A bullet was reportedly fired Tuesday morning at the Prayer Center of Orland Park, 16530 104th Ave.

The Chicago Office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Chicago) is calling for an FBI hate crime investigation after the single shot was discharged through the dome of mosque around 6:05 a.m. Tuesday, according to a release on the website.

No one was injured.

Imam Nazir Chahin was leading prayer when the bullet reportedly penetrated the dome and sent debris falling over the prayer service and its 40 worshipers, according to the release.

Orland Park Police were immediately contacted and are investigating the shooting.

CAIR-Chicago has contacted the Orland Park Police to request increased security patrols and is asking the FBI to investigate the shooting for a potential bias crime.

“Incidents such as this have a chilling effect on worshippers," said CAIR-Chicago Executive Director Ahmed Rehab. "No one should have to go to their place of worship worried if they’ll make it back home alive.”

Orland Park Police are investigating, according to CAIR.

Keep on being delusional, dear. Its fun to watch. I am going to enjoy watching every post you make on Patch. To refresh... "While what I wrote may or may not be brilliant".......hmmm. Shouldn't that have read "while what I plagiarized may or may not be brilliant"? You cannot twist your ball of BS into the truth. Too many people here have been on to your antics for far too long.

Keep reading what I post, you may learn something....although I highly doubt it. To refresh... "While what I wrote may or may not be brilliant" (I copied and pasted that, too) was in response to another poster. Never did he take it as me taking credit for something I posted, but you somehow did. I guess the other poster and I were able to understand each other. So now you are going to be my biggest fan? Wonderful, perhaps you could arrange an outside trip from the institution, we could meet. It is nice to see that you have a lot of support and a lot of contact with the others here on this board, it should help to pass the time in your obviously otherwise meaningless existence. Hey, before I forget, you changed the subject on my earlier point, where in this story does it mention that the police had finished their investigation and determined where this shot came from..remember, the whole point of this discussion before you turned it into some kind of an attack on me.

Had you actually READ the southtown article, you would have seen this. "Officers found two holes in the ceiling and used an aerial ladder from the fire department to inspect the outside of the dome, where authorities found another small hole, Farrell said. Authorities are assuming the holes came from a shot fired from a firearm but do not have the capabilities to go into the very high ceiling to recover a possible bullet, he said. Orland Park police are increasing police patrols near the mosque because of the incident.""""" So unless someone "inside the place", as you so innocently stated, fired a shot that magically exited the dome, then did a U turn OUTSIDE of the dome, came back in and lodged itself in the inside of the place, then your "original" question has been answered. By the Orland Park Police, who went up to the roof, investigated it, and concluded that the bullet that was (and still is) lodged INSIDE the mosque's dome, came from OUTSIDE of the place. Now you can off your tin foil hat and move on to whatever you so choose. You have been publicly proven wrong here not by me, but by the OPPD. Anything you say after this is moot.

Wow! NSF and others, sorry I don't have the time nor want to put forth the effort of a "grassy knoll" theory on this. When this was first reported they hadn't released the longitude & latitude (lol) of the bullet's exact entry & exit (yes this is sarcasm). Arthur I have lived in the Orland area my entire life and yes there are hunters and trappers in the area. My family being some of them. It is stricter now however every couple years the DNR also allows hunters (strict guidelines) to come in to lower deer populations.
