A Mokena woman accused of driving while on medication was found asleep behind the wheel still wearing her shades, police said.
Daniell M. Newbauer, 25, of the 19100 block of Weber Road, Mokena, is charged with driving under the influence of drugs and unlawful parking, according to an Orland Park police report.
Police were called at about 9:38 a.m. on Sept. 14 to the 11900 block of Brookshire Drive, where they found the driver of a silver Mazda asleep and snoring, the report states. Newbauer was buckled in and wearing a pair of sunglasses. It took a cop yelling and shaking her to get Newbauer to wake up. When she did open her eyes, the sleepy woman thought she was in Mokena.
The driver told police she hadn't been drinking but was taking medication for several conditions, the report states. She became lost while driving home from shopping and pulled to the side of the road when she grew sleepy. Newbauer was arrested after taking tests for intoxication and transported to Silver Cross Hospital for treatment. While speaking on the phone with the husband, the arresting officer said Newbauer might have ingested too much medication.Newbauer is due on Oct. 18 in Bridgeview court.
