South Suburban DUI Arrests, Dec. 18

If you're going to give cops a phony name, it better not be someone already in the can. A lesson learned in this roundup of recent drunken driving arrests in the south suburbs.



Dec. 8: While interviewing a Joliet man smelling of alcohol, a question loomed in the mind of one  police officer. Back at the station he finally asked: Did you escape from jail? No, the man replied, I “walked away.” When stopped for speeding, Jermaine Allison, 38, of the 900 block of Gael Drive in Joliet, told police his name was Alphonso Allison, who happens to be incarcerated in the Illinois Department of Corrections, according to police. He possessed no driver's license at the time, police said, because as a proper background search would later reveal, it had been revoked. Read more on Chicago Heights Patch.

Dec. 8: Tana L. Radowski, 45, of the 8400 block of Orchard Street in Tinley Park, was charged with leaving the scene of a property accident and improper lane usage. Police said Radowski’s car struck a sign in the intersection of 191st Street and Hickory Creek Drive, tearing and leaving part of her bumper behind, just after midnight. She was stopped by Tinley Park police, who called Mokena after Radowski admitted to hitting “something” along the way, according to the report. She was arrested on a driving under the influence charge in Tinley Park and told Mokena police she had been texting at the time of the accident.

Dec. 7: Jason A. Dykstra, 33, of the 19300 block of Wolf Road in Mokena, was charged with DUI, failure to yield to emergency vehicle, driving without lights and operation of insured motor vehicle. Police said they activated their lights and siren in the 19100 block of Wolf Road around 9:30 p.m. after noticing Dykstra was driving without headlights. He went nearly three blocks before come to a stop in the parking lot outside his apartment, where he failed field sobriety tests, police said.

Dec. 5: Taylor A. Thomas, 17, of the 19400 block of 104th Avenue in Mokena, was charged with DUI, possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to reduce speed to avoid accident and property damage accident. Police said Thomas struck several mailboxes and then caused a vehicle accident in 10700 block of First Court around 2:30 p.m. and was taken to the hospital smelling of alcohol. Police said they found a marijuana pipe and an empty bottle of vodka in her purse. No other driver involved in the accident was reported injured.

Nov. 25: Police were called about a man passed out behind the wheel of a car in a parking space for drive-thru customers at McDonalds, 9110 159th Street around 7 a.m. Police smelled alcohol on the driver’s breath and he failed some field sobriety tests, according to the report. The driver said he was given cold French fries and went through the drive-thru a second time to get warm fries, police said. Donnell M. Dubose, 25, of the 18700 block of Maple Avenue in Country Club Hills, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence with a blood-alcohol level greater than .08.

Nov. 20: Police pulled over a truck for speeding, swerving, turning without signaling and crossing over into the median lane while making a right turn around 1:20 a.m. in the 16300 block of Harlem Avenue. The officer smelled alcohol on the driver’s breath, and the driver said he was lost, according to the report. Marcus D. Taylor, 38, of the 9000 block of South Racine Avenue in Chicago, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, improper turning, failure to signal when turning, improper lane use and speeding.

Nov. 13: After police pulled over a driver for speeding and swerving, they found she'd been cruising down Oak Park Avenue with her side airbag deployed, according to reports. Kendra M. Evans, 23, of the 14500 block of Normal Avenue in Riverdale, told police around 3 a.m. Nov. 13 that she was coming back from a bar in Chicago. When they asked her why her airbags were deployed, she began to cry, police said. She failed field sobriety tests, according to police, and was arrested. At 3:35 a.m., she blew a .171 on the Breathalyzer, according to the report. .
