South Suburban DUI Arrests, March 10

Not speaking clearly, saying too much and mentioning your conversation with Santa Claus can give you away. Loose lips sink drivers in this week's Southland's drunken driving reports.

 

TINLEY PARK

March 2: Michael A. Kuzminski, 20, of the 18000 block of Highland Avenue, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of alcohol with a BAC over .08, speeding and no insurance, following an incident near the intersection of Harlem Avenue and Hickory Street. Police initially stopped Kuzminski after witnessing him driving 57 mph in a 40-mph zone. During the stop, Kuzminski was unable to provide a valid insurance card and admitted to having a few drinks at this girlfriend's house, according to the police report. Officers noted a strong odor of alcoholic beverage coming from Kuzminski and asked him to perform field sobriety tests, which he failed, according to the report. Kuzminski was taken to the Tinley Park police station, where he blew a .149. He was charged and released, pending an upcoming court date.

March 2: Brian J. Frainey, 24, of the 8600 block of Saddlebred Circle in Frankfort, was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs or combination of drugs, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and no driver's license on person, after an accident at the intersection of 159th Street and 76th Avenue. Frainey told officers that he was using his phone when he, “slammed into the car in front of me.” While speaking with Frainey, officers noted his speech was mumbled and slurred, and that his pupils were extremely small and pinpointed, according to the report. Frainey failed field sobriety tests. Frainey was taken into custody and transported to the Tinley Park police station, where he blew a .00 and refused to submit to a blood and urine test. While under police watch, Frainey would close his eyes and mumble to himself, according to the report. Frainey told officers, “I wasn't talking to you. I was talking to Santa Claus, I saw him in my dream.” Frainey was released on bond and is scheduled to appear in court on April 3, in the Bridgeview Courthouse.

Feb. 13: Police pulled over a car for driving 57 mph in a 40 mph zone in the 7500 block of 159th Street around 1 a.m. The driver did not have his license on him, his speech was slurred, his breath smelled like alcohol and he didn’t know the time, police said. Field sobriety tests were conducted, but the results were not listed, according to the report. Darrell T. Dranter, 40, of the 8900 block of 169th Street in Orland Hills, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving an uninsured vehicle, driving without a license and speeding.

OAK FOREST

March 4: Nicholas M. Master, 17, of the 14800 block of Cleveland Avenue in Posen, was charged with violation of zero tolerance, failure to drive on the right side of the roadway, no insurance, no driver's license on person, underage possession of alcohol and curfew violations, following a traffic stop in the 15100 block of S. Central Avenue. Police originally stopped Master after watching him weave between lanes and speed. During the stop, Master told officers he was 'trying to get by,' them for the reason he was driving like he was. Master was unable to produce a driver's license when asked and officers noted Master was speaking in a slurred manner, and had a strong odor of alcoholic beverage coming from his breath. Officers put Master through field sobriety tests, which he failed, according to the report. Master was then taken into custody and transported to the Oak Forest Police Department, where he blew a .156. Master was processed and released to his mother, pending an upcoming court date.

PALOS HEIGHTS

March 5: Beata M. Wells, 44, of 200 block of Douglas Way in Bolingbrook, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, DUI with a blood-alcohol level greater than 0.08, speeding and improper lane use, according to a police report. Wells was reportedly stopped for improper lane use and speeding. An officer allegedly observed signs that the driver had been drinking. Wells submitted to field sobriety tests and failed, according to police.

March 4: Joseph D. Cipolla, 19, of 7500 block fo West 173rd Street in Tinley Park, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, DUI with a blood-alcohol level greater than 0.08, driving without insurance, improper lane use and speeding, according to a report. Cipolla was stopped for speeding and improper lane use, police said. An investigating allegedly showed that he was under the influence of alcohol. He submitted to a breath test, which reportedly showed a BAL greater than 0.08. He is due in court March 19.

March 4: Matthew R. Schwertfegar, 27, of the 700 block of Churchhill Drive in New Lenox, was charged with driving under the influence and speeding, according to a police report. Schwertfegar was stopped by police for allegedly speeding at around 4:44 a.m. near 12800 S. Harlem Ave. Police said their investigation determined the driver had been under the influence of alcohol.

NEW LENOX

March 3: George Maheras, 47, Chicago, was observed driving erratically in the 1500 block of Lincoln Highway, according to the report. Police determined that he was driving under the influence of alcohol. He was cited for DUI and improper lane use.

March 3: 60-year-old Bruce A. Williquette, a Hickory Street resident, was spotted driving erratically in the 900 block of Cedar Road. Police determined that he was driving under the influence of alcohol. While police attempted to take him into custody, he resisted arrest, according to the report. He was ticketed for DUI, resisting a police officer and moving violations.

March 3: Jeffrey A. Couch, 29, of the 400 block of Circlegate Road, was reportedly driving erratically at 1:40 a.m. at Illinois Highway at Prairie Road. When he was pulled over, police determined that he was driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. He was cited for DUI and for driving on a suspended license.

March 3: Daniel C. Zeigler, 22, of the 900 block of S. Cooper Road, was driving erratically, according to the report, and police pulled him over at Gougar and Laraway Roads. He was ticketed for DUI and moving violations.

Feb. 28: Zachary Monahan, 34, of the 200 block of S. Cooper Road, was pulled over at Cedar and Laraway Roads after police received a complaint about a reckless driver. He was issued a citation for reportedly driving under the influence of drugs and/or drugs.

Feb. 28: Carlos Suarez, 25, Chicago Heights, was initially stopped for speeding at Haven and Prairie Avenues. Police then reportedly determined that he was driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. He was issued a ticket.

FRANKFORT

Feb. 22: Brett R. Balding, 21, of the 19600 block of Glennell Avenue in Mokena, was charged with driving under the influence, possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving with a blood alcohol concentration greater than .08 and inoperable windshield wipers at 2 a.m. at the intersection of Harlem Avenue and Lincoln Highway. He was released on bond. His court date was March 5.

Feb. 19: Jacob W. Dochee, 30, of the 8800 block of W. Port Washington Drive, was cited for driving under the influence, driving with a license revoked for driving under the influence, driving with a license revoked for illegal transportation of alcohol, illegal parking, improper lane usage and driving without insurance at 7 p.m. on the 20300 block of Grand Traverse Drive. He was transferred to Will County Jail.

CHICAGO HEIGHTS

Feb. 24: Pablo G. Salazar, 44, of the 26400 block of South Dixie Highway in Crete, was charged with driving under the influence, DUI with a blood-alcohol level greater than 0.08, failure to signal, disobeying a stop sign, improper lane use, driving without proof of insurance and driving without a valid license, according to a police report. Police stopped Salazar’s vehicle at about 4 a.m. turn left onto northbound Halsted Street without signaling. During the stop, the driver was unable to provide a license or proof of insurance. An officer allegedly could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from Salazar. He was asked to perform field sobriety tests, after which he was arrested. While at the police department, he took a breath test for his blood-alcohol level.
