Police: Man Caught Trying to Flee on Bus After Punching Woman

Orland Park police said the man was also Tasered after he resisted arrest.

A Harvey man was caught trying to flee on a bus after punching a woman and taking her cell phone, police said.

Orland Park police responded to a domestic battery call at Orland Square Mall on Feb. 23, where a woman told officers a man had punched her, swiped her cell phone and fled, according to police.

Andre Carter, 22, of the 16000 block of Paige in Harvey, hopped aboard a Pace bus leaving Orland Square Mall. An Orland Park Tactical officer saw the bus leaving the area and called for it to stop, police said.

The bus was stopped and Carter was found on board, with the woman’s pink cell phone in his possession, police said. After he was escorted off the bus, Carter resisted arrest and the officer Tased him, police said. 

Carter was charged with one count each of domestic battery, robbery, resisting a peace officer and interfering with reporting domestic violence. His bail was set at $150,000.

Carter is due in court on March 15.
