The Orland Park Police Department is looking for information about two residential burglaries at houses next to each other that happened about an hour apart.
On Jan. 15, police were first called to the 1800 block of John Charles Drive about a residential burglary that happened between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m., according to Orland Park Police Sergeant Scott Malmborg. Officers found a service door on the garage had been kicked in and jewelry had been taken from the house that was unoccupied at the time, Malmborg said.
While at the location, police found an adjacent house on Voss Drive had also been broken into between 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. A man was home at the time and in the shower when his house was broken into, Malmborg said. Similar to the house on John Charles, a door on the garage was kicked in and jewelry was taken from the bedroom. The resident was not injured and saw the burglars as they were leaving his home, according to Malmborg.
“While hurrying to leave the second house, they dropped two drawers they had taken out,” Malmborg said.
The burglaries are similar to five incidents that happened in Tinley Park since Jan 1., and six other crimes that happened in Frankfort on Monday. Orland Park Police has been in touch with Frankfort and Tinley Park departments about the burglaries.
“People need to report any suspicious activity to police, and take note of any suspicious activity, with descriptions of people and vehicles,” Malmborg said. “Use smartphones to take pictures, and use them to make audio recordings to take notes of what is seen. Take the best descriptions you have, call it in and do so in a timely manner.”
Malmborg also recommended that people take steps to make their homes appear occupied with lighting inside, as well as motion-activated lights outside.
Anyone with information on the burglaries should call the Orland Park Police Department at 708-349-4111.
