‘Contract Now’: Over 200 Teacher Supporters Gather Outside Contract Negotiations (Video)

Residents, teachers, parents, kids and other Orland School District 135 supporters crowded the administration building entrance, as teacher contract negotiations resumed Wednesday night.

The meeting between negotiators representing Orland School District 135 and the Orland Council of Educators has continued all throughout the night. They took a break at 5:15 a.m. Thursday to take care of personal affairs and continued negotiations at 7 a.m.

Chants, cheers and hopes for a quick resolution filled the air outside the Orland School District 135 Administration building Wednesday night, before teacher contract negotiations resumed.

District 135 teachers have been working under terms of their previous contract that ended on July 31.

While a strike has been described as a possibility if a resolution isn’t made, people on both sides of the debate said they do not wish to see the first District 135 teacher strike since 1977 happen.

The talks were still underway as of 9:25 p.m. Wednesday.
