Village of Orland Park Veterans Day Ceremony

The Village of Orland Park will hold its annual Veterans’ Day Ceremony on Friday, November 11, 2011 at 11:00 a.m.

The ceremony will be held at the Orland Park’s Veterans’ Memorial, Ara Pace ~ Place of Peace, located south of Orland Park’s Frederick T. Owens Village Hall, 14700 South Ravinia Avenue.

“We invite everyone to join us on Veterans Day as we remember those who have served, those who have paid the ultimate price and the men and women who continue to serve our country,” said Orland Park Mayor Dan McLaughlin.

The names of fourteen veterans have been added to Orland Park’s granite wall since the commission’s Memorial Day Ceremony. Each of these veterans and their families will be recognized during the November 11 ceremony. Pastor Don Borling, of All Saints Lutheran Church in Orland Park, will offer the invocation.

U.S. Army PFC Michael Olivieri, 26, will be remembered at the ceremony. The Homer Glen resident was killed in action in Iraq on June 6, 2011 when insurgents launched an attack on his base. Olivieri was a field artillery data systems operator and belonged to the First Infantry Division based at Fort Riley, Kansas.

Approximately 200 members of the Orland Junior High School Class of 2012 will participate in the ceremony with three students laying a wreath at the memorial. Deano Trlin has a brother serving in the US Army while Carissa Sandoval’s stepdad serves with the U.S. Marine Corps. The third wreath presenter is Sarah Kenes whose brother serves with the U.S. Air Force.

Orland Park will join communities across the country with its 12:00 p.m. orange balloon release, remembering all veterans affected by Agent Orange. Balloons, butterflies and doves are being simultaneously released across the country.
