Kevin McCarthy Steps Down from State House After 15 Years

The Orland Park legislator said he resigned because "this is the right decision for me and my family."

Kevin McCarthy, who represented the Orland Park area as the Illinois 37th House District Representative for 15 years, resigned from his seat as of Tuesday.

In a letter sent from his Springfield office, McCarthy thanked his many supporters and expressed his respect for fellow state lawmakers.

McCarthy wrote that the decision was made after “thoughtful consideration” but did not offer further specifics in the letter on what led to stepping down.

“Our state faces many challenges, but we are very fortunate to have so many outstanding individuals who will continue to work long and hard to find solutions to our problems,” McCarthy wrote.

McCarthy’s term was to run until January 2013. , who serves as the Democratic committeeman, will be chairing a committee to vet a replacement to finish out the term, according to Mike Nolan’s report for Sun Times Media
