Last Rites: Randy's Market to Close Tomorrow

The public is invited to join the pastor of All Saints Lutheran Church inside the grocery store at 10 a.m. for farewell blessing.

Pastor Don Borling of will give Randy’s Market a fond farewell and blessing tomorrow morning before the grocery store closes its door for the last time.

"I'm just going to do a Prayer of Thanksgiving for the 25 years that Randy's Market has been around," Borling said. "It's a bitter-sweet day. It's time to celebrate what they've done for the community, but it’s a sad day, too."

Randy’s co-owner Rick Huff said the blessing will likely be held on the sales floor towards the entrance and has invited everyone to attend. The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. and the store closes at 6 p.m.

The closing comes on the heels of a three-week going-out-of-business sale and will be followed by a private auction of the remaining equipment.

Randy’s is the anchor of the Orland Plaza, a shopping mall that the , and will eventually demolish. The property owners are letting .

By his own estimation, Borling has been to Randy’s nearly every day since it opened in 1985. He noted that he has even baptized some of the employee’s children.

“They’re like family to us," he said. "I'm mourning just like everyone else.”
