D135 Looking for Superintendent to Appoint by December

The schedule for Orland School District 135's Board of Education has been set, though the board is still talking about what they will look for in a candidate.

Orland School District 135 is hoping to have a selected candidate for permanent superintendent by the end of the year.

The board unanimously approved the hiring timeline at Monday night’s meeting, though other aspects of the hiring process are still under discussion.

A date for posting the official job opening hasn’t been set, and the board is still talking about what qualifications and accomplishments they want in a candidate.

“It’s a much longer process. It asks more of each board member,” D135 Board President John Carmody said after Monday night’s meeting. “But it worked out fantastically when we hired Dennis (Soustek).”

for the upcoming 2012-2013 school year, and she has the option to apply for the permanent seat.

Here is the timeline set by the district for hiring a new superintendent:

  • Sept. 28, 2012: Application deadline
  • Oct. 1-15, 2012: Candidates presented to the board
  • Oct. 22-30, 2012: Candidate Interviews
  • Dec. 2012: New Superintendent Appointed
  • July 1, 2012: New Superintendent Begins
