On Monday, June 3, Central Middle School 8th graders will take part in their graduation ceremony inside the school’s gymnasium.

It is anticipated to be packed to the maximum, as always, making seating limited for families of the students. This limited spacing can pose a problem for those that have large families. Not everyone can attend and share in the evening’s excitement.

Central Middle School Administrators brainstormed ideas, and this year D146 will be live streaming the graduation on the internet for anyone worldwide to view.

Mr. Randy Fortin, principal of CMS said, “We realize that our families are limited by the number of tickets given, and we needed to come up with a solution.  We worked with our district office and we were able to come up with what we saw as a possible answer to the issue.”

Mr. Fortin suggested iHigh.com, and the district’s Communications Specialist, Linda Zec, was able to look into the possible online broadcast.

“It took time to get this one set up and figured out.  At first I thought a live steam was going to be cost-prohibitive, however, after further review, we found out that the live streaming via this online company is 100% free for school district events.  We have the camera and the laptop, so we are basically good-to-go. We even have a link up on our Central webpage, so if it all goes as planned, all that a viewer will need to do is click and watch.”

“The level of technology that we have at D146,” said Mr. Fortin, “is amazing. We hope to deliver a trouble-free broadcast. The video should be easily accessed after the event, too, all online. We were more than happy with this option.  It’s always difficult when families call asking for more tickets.  We also have families who have members not even living in the USA, so now even their families can see it with an internet connection.”

Mr. Fortin said that the nearly 300 graduates are more than ready for their diplomas and have already practiced for the graduation.

“One final luncheon on Monday with our 8th graders, then they will be dismissed at 12:15pm, and return to school for their big night. They are a great group of kids.  We will miss them a lot.”
