Gimme 5: Indiana Recruit Feeney Looks to End Sandburg Football Career on High Note

Sandburg senior Dan Feeney is off to Indiana University next year, but first he plans to guide the Eagles through another big football season.

Sandburg football standout Dan Feeney sets the pace in the Eagles' camp.

"He's a great leader," coach Dave Wierzal said. "He knows how to lead by example, and the team recognizes that."

Feeney, who will attend Indiana University next year on a football scholarship, is pegged to start on both offense and defense for the Eagles. While he has more experience playing on the offensive side of the ball, he did start a few games on defense last season.

Feeney's rise to Big Ten recruit status has been a meteoric one. He did not play with the Orland Wolves or Orland Pioneers as a youngster. Rather, he started playing football as a freshman at Sandburg.

Wierzal expects him to fit in on the offensive line at Indiana. First, there is the business of the Eagles' regular season.

Sandburg opens at home on Friday, Aug. 26, against district rival Andrew.
