Residency Cheat Missed Court Date in D135 Civil Case

Orland School District 135 is looking for about $25,000 from a Blue Island man found guilty of forging an Orland Park lease.

District 135 was all set to move forward Monday with their civil suit against a man found guilty of faking an Orland Park lease to send his daughter to school within the district. Only he didn’t show up to court.

Paul D. Gutierrez of Blue Island was charged with violating school code, a misdemeanor, after authorities found he forged an Orland Park lease. He was found guilty in Dec. 2010 and sentenced to six months probation and was fined $585.

The district decided to seek damages from Gutierrez of $24,208.03 in out-of-district costs, and the .

“We asked for a default judgment against him (on Monday) and the judge set the date for our motion for default to be filed by October 17, 2011,” District 135 Asst. Superintendent for Business Services John Reiniche wrote in an email. “On that date we shall appear and if everything goes as planned we shall have a judgment against him for all we are asking for in the complaint.”
