Teacher Contract, Admin Changes, New Secretary Up for Vote at D135 Meeting

Orland School District 135 Board of Education is expected to make the final call on a new teacher contract, a returning superintendent and a new student services secretary Monday night.

The Orland Council of Educators ratified a teachers contract Friday for the rest of the 2011-2012 school year, sending the contract to the board for a final vote.

Teachers ratified the contract with 285 votes in favor of it and 23 votes against, according to Illinois Federation of Teachers Field Service Director Deneen Pajeau said. 

Specific details about the contract have not been announced.

District 135 teachers have been working under terms of their previous contract throughout the school year. Negotiations began in spring 2011, and muddled on through the rest of the year until a 21-hour negotiation session ended with .

Student Services Secretary Chosen

The district school board is also scheduled to vote on a new hire for the student services secretary position. Melanie Walsh held the job from June until Sept. 21, when she was told she could either return to the paraprofessional job she held before, or be terminated.

Walsh reapplied for the position after .
