This Weekend: Taste of Palos, Sweeney Todd and More

Festivals, performing arts, sports, kid friendly and charitable events this weekend, July 14 - 17, in the Orland, Palos, Tinley and Oak Forest area.

Marco Polo, Christopher Columbus and Magellan knew how to party.  Life's more fun when you get out and explore it. So put down the remote and pick your GPS - it's time to discover the weekend.

This weekend brings monsters, horror, and blood (donations).

Festivals


July 17, 12pm - 7:30pm | W 123rd St & S 89th Ave, Palos Park, IL
Enjoy a day of good food, entertainment, games and much more. Sponsored by the Palos Park Woman's Club, proceeds from the Taste of Palos help support Grade School District 118, High School District 230, Police and Fire Departments and the library.

Performing Arts


July 15, 8pm; July 16, 2pm & 8pm, July 17, 2pm | The Lantern Theatre presents a musicial considered both dark comedy and a thriller - not your typical night at the theater. With eight Tony Awards, this heart stopping tale blends love, vengeance, murder and meat. Music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by Hugh Wheeler.


July 15, 4pm & 7pm; July 16, 11am & 2pm |
Make your neighbors pea green with envy by taking the kids to see the Princess and the Pea. Best suited for ages 3 and up, the play brings comedy and music to the classic tale.

For Kids


Thursdays, 4pm - 5pm |
Learn to knit a scarf; laugh and chat with new friends at the Bridge Teen Center. Needles, scarf patterns and yarn are provided. To sign up, visit thebridgeteencenter.org or call 708-532-0500.

Stories in the Park - Equestrian Park
July 14, 4pm - 5pm |
Climb, crawl and creep in the Equestrian Park. Then, listen to monster stories using puppets told by the Orland Park Library. Children 4th grade and below are welcome. No registration is required. Call 708-428-5114 for more information.

Sports & Recreation


Thursdays, 6:30pm–8:30pm | Christ Community Church
Men ages 15 and up are welcome to join this open gym activity. This is a free, non-competitive activity. Bring a friend and join the game.


Thursdays in July |
Take advantage of a free weekly fitness class. Cut loose and burn up to 600 calories in one 60-minute workout. Dance to today's hits with a mix of jazz resistance training, Pilates, yoga and kickboxing. See the schedule for specific workout times.

Charitable Events


July 16, 9am - 1pm |
Save up to three lives just by donating blood. This event is sponored by the Oak Forest Rotary and in coordination with Heartland Blood Centers. Donors get a coupon for a free quart of ice cream at .
