Village of Orland Park Enters Partnership With Bulls/Sox Academy

Beginning on Oct. 4, youngsters ages 5-17 will be able to train in Bulls/Sox Academy facility in the Orland Sportsplex.

Move over Halloween. October no longer is only a month for ghosts and goblins. The Bulls/Sox Training Academy is coming to Orland Park.

On Oct. 4, Orland Park youngsters between the ages of 5-17 will have an opportunity to work on their basketball, baseball and fast-pitch softball skills or their overall conditioning.

The announced a partnership with the Bulls/Sox Training Academy. The academy will house its Orland Park lessons at the , 11351 W. 159th St.

“We couldn’t be happier with this relationship," said Joe Lachcik, president of operations at the Bulls/Sox Academy, in a news release. "Orland Park is a wonderful family-centric community that takes its sports very seriously.

"The Orland Park Sportsplex is the perfect place to continue Chairman (Jerry) Reinsdorf’s goal of bringing top flight basketball, baseball and softball instruction to every young player who wants our help. The people of Orland Park deserve the best, and that is what they will receive through all of the new Bulls and White Sox sports programming.”

Bulls camps will begin Oct. 4 and be held on Tuesdays at a variety of times. Age specific programs include ball handling, fundamentals camp, shooting camp and advanced skills and drills.

White Sox camps also will begin Oct. 4 with clubs being offered for hitting, pitching, advanced hitting, little sluggers, fast-pitch hitting, fast-pitch pitching, offense, defense and fast-pitch elite

Details about both camps appear in the Recreation Department’s Fall Program Guide on the village’s website.

Sandburg Volleyball at Lyons Quad

Sandburg's girls volleyball team won two of three matches at the Lyons Quad on Sept. 2. Wins included straight-sets sweeps of Lake Forest (25-23, 25-19) and the defending state champions from Lyons (25-21, 25-16). The Eagles lost to top-ranked York in a thrilling three-set match, winning Game 2 before dropping a tense Game 3 (17-25, 28-26, 22-25).

All 11 girls on the Eagles' roster contributed to get past Lake Forest. Paige Bendell had 10 kills in the win against Lyons. On the weekend, senior setter/right-side hitter Kara Kentner had 43 assists and 18 kills. Junior outside hitter Dakota Hampton led the team with 28 kills.

Sandburg (2-1) is off until Monday, Sept. 12, when it travels to Stagg.

Sandburg Soccer Second Best in West

The Sandburg boys soccer team performed well in the Best of the West tournament at Naperville Central, finishing in second overall in the team standings.

The Eagles defeated Naperville Central 1-0 to reach the title match. The lone goal was scored by Danny Lojeck with just four minutes remaining in regulation. Zack Biel was credited with an assist on the play. Adam Zehme recorded 10 saves in his second shutout of the season.

In the championship match, Sandburg was pitted against another Naperville powerhouse--Naperville North. The Huskies were too much for the Eagles, earning the 2-0 victory and the championship trophy. The Eagles finished the weekend at 2-2-1.
