Watch: Moment of Silence for Bruce Scheidegger

Sandburg math teacher and public address man Mark Peterson asked fans to stand and join in a moment of silence in memory of the late-Bruce Scheidegger before the opening tip of the Eagles' basketball game vs. Homewood-Flossmoor on Friday night in Orland Park.

H-F scored a 52-36 victory and raised its record to 19-5.

Celebration of his life

A celebration of the life of Scheidegger will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17, in the Eagle Gym at Sandburg High School. Afterward, light refreshments will be served in the commons.

Scheidegger, 54, was found dead Sunday, Feb. 10, after a single-car accident in Carroll County, southwest of Freeport. He was in the area to attend the IHSA girls state bowling tournament.

Scheidegger served as Sandburg’s athletic director for the last five years. His family has requested everyone wear their Sandburg blue & gold pep assembly attire to Sunday’s celebration in the Eagle Gym.

Since parking may be at a premium in the school lot, Sandburg staffers are asked to park in the driver’s education range or arrange to car pool in order to save spaces for friends, family and other well-wishers.
