Athlete of the Week: Valach's Can-Do Approach Keeps Eagles on Course

Brant Valach is the resident jack-of-all-trades on the Sandburg baseball team. He plays shortstop and serves as closer. He also swings a hot bat.

Sandburg's Brant Valach is the resident jack-of-all-trades on the Eagles' baseball team.

He showed off his do-it-all prowess in a 6-5 victory over Lincoln-Way Central on Thursday. He was summoned from his shortstop position to the mound in the seventh inning to quiet the Knights.

And he struck out two in a 1-2-3 inning.

Valach also drove in three runs, including the game-winner in the bottom of the sixth. He is honored for his performance today as the Patch Athlete of the Week.

His coach--Sandburg's Doug Sutor--views him as a weapon that can be used in a number of different ways. Valach takes on his assortment of assignments with an all in a day's work approach.
