Eagles Fullback Chris Lopez is Ready to Run Down His Goals

Senior football player is eager to change the Eagles' 1-5 record against the Griffins.

Chris Lopez is facing changes in his life.

As a senior at Carl Sandburg High School, not only is graduation around the corner, but it also means that his career as a fullback for the Eagles' football team is coming to a close.

For Lopez, that means one last shot at revenge against the Lincoln-Way East Griffins.

Since the 2004 season, the Eagles' record is 1-5 against the Griffins. Last season, the Griffins beat Sandburg 49-0, which was not only the worst loss of the Eagles' season, but it was also the most points Lincoln-Way East has scored against the Eagles in recent years.

Lopez wants to change that this year.

"I'm really looking forward to (playing Lincoln-Way) East," he said. "Every game is important, but I want to get a little redemption."

So far, Lopez is on track for payback. Sandburg is 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the Southwest Suburban Blue, its only loss a 29-24 setback to Homewood-Flossmoor. Lincoln-Way East is 3-1 after winning its last two games. Lopez and the Eagles have only one more game in their wake before getting their shot at the Griffins in Week 6 -- and that game is Friday at Lincoln-Way Central.

Besides beating Lincoln-Way East, Lopez said the Eagles have one thing on their mind -- to make some noise in the state playoffs. But in order for that to happen, he said that Eagles need to focus on their next opponent.

"I'm just taking it one game at a time," Lopez said. "We always have to look one game ahead."
