Village of Orland Park Family Fun Run & Walk

The Village of Orland Park will host a number of events to celebrate the Independence Day Weekend.

A weekend highlight is the Recreation Department’s annual Liberty Family Fun Run and Walk to be held on Friday, July 1. The two-mile run and one-mile walk will travel the village’s scenic 100-plus acre Centennial Park, 15600 West Avenue. 

Pre-race packet pick-up will at the Human Race Sports, 15148 South LaGrange Road, June 27 to June 30. Those unable to pick-up their packet before the race may obtain them beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the race starting area. Participants will check in at the adjacent Metra Station at 10401 West 153rd Street at 6:00 p.m. with the run/walk beginning at 7:00 p.m.

“Orland Park’s Liberty Fun Run and Walk is a great way to begin the holiday weekend,” said village Sportsplex Administrator Ray Piattoni, who is overseeing the event.

“The Liberty Run and Walk is open to everyone, those who want to run and those who want to walk. We’ve had single entries and entire families register to be a part of the event,” he added.

Pre-registration is available at the Franklin Loebe Recreation Center, 14650 South Ravinia Avenue and at the village’s Sportsplex, 11351 West 159th Street. Race day registration will be accepted beginning at 6pm.

Village of Orland Park residents pay $12 to participate in the run while non-residents pay $18. Residents participating in the walk pay $7 while non-residents pay $11.

All registered participants will receive a race t-shirt. Awards for overall male and female top finishers along with first, second and third place in thirteen age groups, male and female, will be awarded. Post race refreshments and raffles are included.

The 50-Yard Kids’ Dash, for children age four to six, will be held immediately following the Liberty Run/Walk, near the finish line at the west end of Centennial Park, near Centennial Ball Field #7, past the ice skating rink and warming house. The dash is free and all participating children will receive finishers’ medals.
