Village of Orland Park Sportsplex Gyms' Grand Re-Opening

The Village of Orland Park will celebrate the grand re-opening of the three gymnasiums at its Sportsplex on Monday, October 3 with special activities beginning at 4:00 p.m. The three gyms have been closed since Saturday, August 20th so that the floors could be replaced. Orland Park’s Sportsplex is located at 11351 West 159th Street, near 159th Street and Wolf Road.

“The village is excited that the three gyms will be usable once again,” said Orland Park Mayor Dan McLaughlin. “With the weather changing and basketball season starting soon, I know that everyone is eager to get in there to try out the new floor,” he added.

The Chicago White Sox inflatable with a pitching machine to measure ball speed will be available outside of the Sportsplex from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. In the event of inclement weather, the inflatable will be located inside of the soccer arena.

Village officials will participate in the grand re-opening ceremony at 5:00 p.m. with a special appearance by South Paw, the Chicago White Sox mascot, from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The Sportsplex mascot, T-Rex, will also participate in the festivities. From 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Bulls/Sox Academy instructors will teach proper hitting techniques.

Chicago Bulls Legend Bob Love and Michael Huff, former White Sox outfielder and current vice-president of sports for the Bulls/Sox Academy will be at the Sportsplex from 4:30 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Attendees will be invited to enter a raffle to receive an autographed AJ Pierzynski baseball bat and a Scottie Pippen basketball.

“The Recreation Department has a great celebration planned to mark the debut of the new gymnasium floor at the Sportsplex,” said Trustee Patricia Gira, chair of the village’s Recreation and Parks Committee. “We invite everyone to come out to see the new floor and join the fun,” she added.

Basketball staff from the academy will run kids through drills and fun games on the new floor. Open gym will be available for no charge after the festivities.

The village’s Sportsplex debuted in February, 2002 and spans more than 90,000 square feet. Amenities include a state-of-the-art fitness center, yoga, Pilates, weight lifting, cardio programs, indoor track, basketball, volleyball, soccer, rock climbing, exercise classes, birthday parties, hitting and pitching lessons, golf cages, open gym and on-site childcare for facility users.

The Sportsplex was recently named an official Chicago Bulls/Chicago White Sox Training Academy and is offering basketball and baseball programs led by Bulls and White Sox instructors.

“The Village of Orland Park is very excited to partner with the Bulls/Sox Academy to make these programs available for the young people of the area. Orland Park is a very sports-oriented community and the village’s Sportsplex is the perfect setting for our young athletes to hone their skills,” McLaughlin said.
