Former Bears Star Gary Fencik Helps Open New Orland Hills Sports Authority
Many Bears fans lined up to meet the all-time Bears leader in interceptions, during the store's grand opening.
Chicago Bears fans, most of whom probably cheered on through the ’85 championship season, lined up at the new Orland Hills Sports Authority this past Sunday morning for a meet and greet with the former Bears defensive back, Gary Fencik.
Rick Colaro, after waiting since “before 8 a.m.,” got the coveted head of the line position. Like many waiting fans, the LaGrange Park resident brought helmets, posters, and other Bears memorabilia for Fencik to autograph. They weren’t disappointed.
After a short delay—traffic?—Fencik arrived to banter, autograph and pose with fans, young and old.

He even took off his Super Bowl ring, after one fan asked about it.
“I asked him if it was heavy and next thing you know, he took it off and gave it to me hold,” said an excited Kathleen Rusco, of Palos Heights.

Jake Tanquilut, one of the youngest fans in line, had a different agenda. After meeting the Bears’ all-time leader in interceptions, the 8 year-old Orland Hills resident announced he was going to play for the Bears someday, too.
