Gimme 5: Eagles Turn to 'Cool Pappa' for Offensive Heat

Jamie Pappanastos is the go-to girl on the Sandburg water polo team. She is at ease scoring goals herself or dishing the ball to teammates.

Against Lincoln-Way East, Sandburg's Jamie Pappanastos dished the ball off five times to her teammate, , and collected five assists. Pappanastos also scored a pair of goals in the Eagles'  over the Griffins.

"Hands down, Jamie is our go-to girl," Sandburg coach Jane Calliendo said. "She's our best player. She does a fantastic job of working the hole position."

Pappanastos is Sandburg's leading scorer, but her unselfish play has helped create opportunities for others.

"She doesn't force (goals)," Calliendo said. "She dishes the ball out. It's a sign of her growth at that position."

Pappanastos is wrapping up her junior year at Sandburg, and Calliendo is excited about having her back again next season.

"My main goal is to get the ball passed out to the open person," Pappanastos said. "Coach is saying we have so much potential that we don't even know we have. We still have a lot in us. I don't think we know what we're capable of (doing yet)."
