Gimme 5: Sandburg's Manzke Draws a Crowd

Eagles' sophomore midfielder plans to play soccer, study psychology in college. But she's living in the moment for now.

Sandburg sophomore Morgan Manzke is no stranger to athletics. Her mother, Eva Manzke, is the head track coach at Argo High School. A week ago, Eva brought three of her Argonaut runners out to cheer on her daughter in the Eagles' regional semifinal soccer matchup against Richards.

Morgan Manzke gave them something to shout about. She scored at the 35:45 mark in the second half to get in on Sandburg's 7-0 over the Bulldogs. She was also instrumental in setting up Paige Bendell's goal from about 45 yards out.

Manzke was active on the defensive end of the pitch as well. She helped Sandburg limit Richards to just one shot on goal.

"Manzke did a good job of slowing the ball down before it even got to the defensive line," Sandburg coach Desi Vuillaume said.

Manzke plays with the Chicago Fire Juniors club team and plans to play college soccer. She is wrapping up her second season playing with the Eagles' varsity unit.
