Gimme 5: Sandburg's Sherridan Equates Winning with Togetherness

Senior center fielder knows Eagles will need to work on building a new team chemistry as they look to repeat as state softball champions.

Sandburg senior center fielder Kelly Sherridan is asking just one thing of her senior teammates--step up your game.

"As a team, I want to see all the seniors step up," Sheridan said. "Last year, we had really awesome seniors and the juniors were able to step back for them. Now, we just have to learn how to step up."

Sherridan is hoping to bring home another state championship this season. But, in order to do that, she said the Eagles need to adjust to their new teammates.

"We have a lot of new seniors and juniors this year," she said. "It's fun to get to meet new people. But, with all the new people on the team, we have to keep our team chemistry going."

Sherridan started playing softball when she was 5 years old. She also played volleyball in her freshmen year at Sandburg, but gave it up one kind of spikes for another. She turned her focus to softball.

"I just couldn't imagine my life without softball," she said. "I've played for so long and I just wasn't as committed to volleyball."

During softball season, Sheridan said she doesn't have a lot of free time. But, when she does, she tries to attend all the other Sandburg sporting events and she hangs out with her friends.

Sheridan will attend Ohio Northern University when she leaves Sandburg. She will continue her softball career and plans on studying pharmacy.
