Hoops: These Boys are Flying High

Sports Editor Ron Kremer ranks the top area boys basketball teams from 1-5, plus a short list of the next best.

1. Homewood-Flossmoor (13-5): No, it wasn’t time that stood still, just the two teams in H-F’s 33-30 slow-down victory over Lincoln-Way Central. Julian Lewis led all players with 12 points and five rebounds. Next: Tonight at Joliet West.

2. Bloom (13-6): Johnny Griffin and Lejavious Johnson teamed to do much of the damage in the Blazing Trojans’ 52-34 victory over Joliet Central. Another “Central” comes calling. Next: Tonight vs. Rich Central.

3. Stagg (13-5): In tense situation, Chargers finally get the job done. Scott Lyons scored 19 points and pulled down eight rebounds in 63-56 overtime victory over Bradley-Bourbonnais. Darius Draper chipped in with 14 points and 14 rebounds. Next: Tonight vs. Lincoln-Way West.

4. Rich South (11-7): Jamee Crockett gets best of Macari Brooks in battle of future DePaul teammates as Crete-Monee tops Rich South 70-62. Next: Tonight vs. Kankakee.

5. Sandburg (11-7): Jason Viane continues to carry the load for the Eagles. He scored 14 points in a 40-31 victory over Joliet West. But a tough road trip looms. Next: Tonight at Lockport.
