Marist and Mount Carmel Both Playing in Football Quarterfinal Games Saturday

A look at Saturday's big quarterfinal football games.

Two area teams are still in the running for an IHSA football championship.

The Marist Redhawks are playing their Class 8A quarterfinal game at home against Oswego High School. The Caravan of Mount Carmel heads to Downers Grove North for their Class 7A quarterfinal.

It's a familiar post season run for Mount Carmel. They took home their 11th state title last year. While they moved to a smaller class this season, their dominance has continued unabated.

With just one loss on the season, the Caravan are riding high after last week's dramatic win over rival South Side school Saint Rita, 20-15. They took out Benet Academy in the first round with a final of 49-6.

The Redhawks have an 8-3 record and are riding high after knocking off favored Bolingbrook 21-7 in the last round. Their smooth first round win came against Plainfield South where they put up a whopping 64 points against 28 for their opponent.

It's a nice run of postseason wins for a school that has exited in the first round the last few seasons.

Mount Carmel takes on Downers Grove North at 3 p.m. and Marist is at home against Oswego at 7 p.m.
