Orland Park Pioneers: Celebrating 35 Years of Football

Orland area kids suit up for the start of football season.

Are you ready for some football?

The Orland Park Pioneers sure are. They kicked off their 35th year last week with practices held at the John Humphrey Complex.

The fields were busy as coaches whipped their teams in shape via exercises, running and blocking drills for the experienced boys, as well as teaching football fundamentals to the newest and youngest players. Cheerleaders began their season preparing for their half-time routines and sideline cheers.

The Pioneer organization is a member of Southwest Midget Football League and competes with teams from nearby towns during the season. Run solely on the work of volunteer coaches and parents, the Pioneers strive to uphold their tradition of teaching area children the importance of team spirit, hard work and sportsmanship.

“We have about 245 boys, and 156 girls signed up this year. We’re looking forward to a great season,” says Regina Glascott, board president of the Pioneer organization.

Cheer them on to victory—their first home game is scheduled for the weekend of Sept 3 and 4, against the Mokena Burros.
