Sandburg Grad Kendall Coyne Makes Olympic Women's Hockey Team

The 21-year-old hockey player will take the ice in Sochi, Russia as part of Team USA.

A Palos Heights native and Carl Sandburg High School alum will be wearing the red, white and blue at next month's Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.

Kendall Coyne, 21, was named to the U.S. Women's Hockey team and will represent her country on the biggest stage in sports. A graduate of Sandburg High School, Coyne played hockey for two years at Northeastern University.

Although she will be making her Olympic debut in Sochi, Coyne is not a newcomer to international competition. She has been part of the Team USA program for years and was a member of last year's world championship team that knocked off Canada to win it all.

Coyne had a goal and three assists during the 2013 world championships.

Upon hearing the news of her selection to the Olympic team she tweeted, " 'All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.' Thank you everyone for the support! #honored"

The U.S. women will start Olympic play on Feb. 8 against Finland in preliminary round play.
