Forget what the clock said.
The Sandburg boys soccer match at Lincoln-Way West on Tuesday was over in the first few minutes. The Eagles netted two goals in a four-minute span at the outset and never looked back to down the Warriors 5-0 at the Lincoln-Way West Invitational.
In the third minute, junior Joe Longhi intercepted a Warrior pass and sent it across the goal to midfielder Alex Rohder. Rohder punched it in for the first goal.
A minute later, Rohder sent a beautiful cross into the box where forward Ronnie Merjan was waiting. A perfect touch by Merjan put the Eagles up 2-0.
After halftime, Sandburg wasted little time scoring once again. Rohder used his head to send a nice cross into the back of the net only 35 seconds into the second half.
Junior Zack Biel and senior Taylor Popovich added goals in the 57th and 77th minutes to round out the scoring. Goalkeeper Adam Zehme preserved the shutout, pushing aside all four shots the Warriors put on goal.
