Watch: Sandburg Football Victory Over Andrew is D-licious

The Eagles used tough defense to overpower Andrew 17-10 in their football opener on Friday night.

Friday night brought with it the promise of the opening weekend of high school football for the Sandburg Eagles as Andrew came to town for a Southwest Suburban Conference crossover matchup.

Defense dominated the first half as Sandburg held Andrew scoreless and both teams only managed around 50 yards of offense. Kicker Ted Vergados split the uprights to give Sandburg an early 3-0 lead, but the highlight of the first half came minutes before halftime as Matt Zilinskas picked off an Andrew pass and took it to the house to give the Eagles a 10-0 lead.

Andrew struck first in the second half as running back Jarvis Franklin crossed the goal line to cut Sandburg's lead to three, but Mike Rago put the game away with a fourth-quarter touchdown to give the Eagles a 17-10 win.
