U.S. Hockey Silver Medalist Kendall Coyne Visits Jerling Jr. High

When talking to 2014 U.S Silver medalist Kendall Coyne, it does not take long to realize the outstanding character and perseverance of this young athlete. Having played in the Sochi Olympics this past winter, Coyne recently visited Jerling Jr. High students and spoke of her amazing experience playing for the U.S. Women’s Hockey team, sharing the message to work hard and not give up on your dreams. She emphasized that school was her first priority followed by hockey throughout her young career.

Coyne began ice skating and playing hockey at age three emulating her older brother who played hockey. He inspired her to reach for the stars and pursue her dream of playing hockey for the U.S. Women’s’ Hockey Team one day. In her visit to Jerling, Coyne spoke of the many challenges she faced as one of the youngest players in the sport.

In January 2011, it was announced that Coyne was named to the preliminary roster for the U.S. Women's National Team. She was one of 30 players that took part in a selection / training camp in April 2011, and was named to the final U.S. Women’s Hockey Team roster. Coyne competed in the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, winning the silver medal with the United States Women's National Ice Hockey Team .She was the leading scorer for Team USA, with six points on two goals, and four assists.

Coyne is a Carl Sandburg graduate, local area resident, and is pursuing a degree in Communications and Business from Northeastern College in Boston, Massachusetts.
