Area Mayors Face Police & Fire Chiefs in Softball Game for Special Olympics

Orland Park Mayor Dan McLaughlin will join south suburban mayors in a charity softball game to benefit Special Olympics. The mayors will face the police and fire chiefs from their towns, including Orland Park Police Chief Tim McCarthy.

“The Battle in the ‘Burbs” will be held Saturday, October 12 at 6 p.m. at Standard Bank Stadium, 14011 Kenton Avenue, in Crestwood. Tickets are $5.00 per person with all proceeds benefitting Special Olympics with free admission for children.

Advanced tickets may be purchased at the cashier’s window of Orland Park’s Village Hall, 14700 South Ravinia Avenue.

“The Village of Orland Park is a longtime supporter of Special Olympics with all of the events that our police department sponsors and with our Special Recreation Program,” McLaughlin said.

“And, while Chief McCarthy and I have always been on the same ‘team’ for all of the village’s Special Olympics fundraising events, Saturday will be the first time we’ll be on opposing sides,” the mayor said smiling. “It should be a good game,” he added.

Area restaurants are participating and have been invited to be a part of “Bite in the Burbs.” South suburban restaurants will offer their specialties before and during the ballgame. Tickets will be sold for food with a portion of those proceeds benefitting Special Olympics.

Once inside the ballpark, tickets can be purchased for $1.00 each to use for the purchase of both food and beverages. At the end of the evening, all proceeds will be distributed equally to each participating municipality to be used for the town’s donation to Special Olympics.
