Orland Park Police Top Roofs for Special Olympics

Local officers were among hundreds across the state who went atop roofs of Dunkin Donuts restaurants to raise money for Special Olympics for the 11th year.

Orland Park police officers stood atop Dunkin Donuts restaurants to help raise money for the Special Olympics Friday morning.

As part of the Illinois Law Enforcement Torch Run, officers stood on roofs at over 150 Dunkin Donuts restaurants for the fundraiser. Last year, about $235,000 was raised through the event, and about $1.3 million has been raised since the event began over a decade ago.

The Illinois Law Enforcement Torch Run includes about 3,000 police officers running about 1,500 miles across the state to the State Summer Games in Normal. The entire effort has raised about $28 million in 27 years, while also building awareness of the Special Olympics.
