Orland Chamber Business Expo and Palos Paranormal Conference Lead Weekend Events List

The big bad list of local weekend events for your planning pleasure.

It's a weekend  featuring the fun and unusual in the Palos-Orland area. From drums in the library and ghost hunters on the stage to a local business expo and free paper shredding, there is plenty to keep you busy this weekend. If we missed an event, give it a plug in the comments section, or post it to the Palos or Orland event calendars. 

Friday, Oct. 18

Library Drum Fun - Orland Park Library, 14921 S. Ravinia, welcomes noted musician Kevin Lucas who will play marimba and drums at 7 p.m. in the lobby. 

Saturday, Oct. 19

Orland Chamber Community Expo - The Orland Park Area Chamber of Commerce Community Expo is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Carl Sandburg High School, 13300 S. LaGrange Road. The event will feature food samples from area restaurants and caterers, healthcare-related fun activities for kids, entertainment, local exhibitor booths and a raffle. There is no charge to attend.

Palos Park Paranormal Conference - Vendors, speakers and demonstrations from experts in the field will be on hand at the unique conference at the Palos Country Club, 13100 Southwest Highway, this Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 19 and 20. The two-day event also includes ghost hunters, fortune telling and haunted history as well as a presentation from Bill Homann, the caretaker of the Mitchell Hedges Crystal Skull. open on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $10 per day, or $15 for a two day pass.

Black and Boo Halloween Party - Durbin's in Tinley Park 17265 S. Oak Park will be hosting a Halloween party as a benefit for animal rescue Lulu's Locker Rescue. Tickets are $45 and include dinner, an open premium bar, costume contest, music and dancing. To purchase tickets call call 708-325-8581 or 312-907-3289.

BACtoberfest - The Beverly Arts Center, 2407 W. 111th Street, will host an Oktoberfest event featuring food, music and and a special on Goose Island Oktoberfest beer. The music schedule is the Bratwurst Brothers playing from 5 pm. to 6 pm., Brown Bag from 6:30 to 7:30 pm, Terriers will perform from 7:45 to 8:45 p.m. and The In- Laws band from 9 to 10 p.m. Food and deserts will be by Sweet Freaks. Admission is $10. 

Paper Shredding - State Sen. Bill Cunningham and State Rep. Fran Hurley will host a free paper shredding at recycling event at Worth Township, 11601 S. Pulaski Road, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. 

Build a Cat Shelter - Head on over to the Tinley Park P.A.W.S., 8301 West 191st Street, to learn how to build a shelter to help cats survive outside in the winter. Materials are provided and a $20 donation is requested. Dress for the weather.

Orland Open Spelling Bee - The bee will be buzzing for the 35th year as Orland Park Village of Orland Park and The Presbyterian Church in Orland Park will hold their annually spelling be at 2 p.m. at the Orland Park Civic Center, 14750 Ravinia. The event is free and open to entrants from eight years on up to senior citizens. Advanced phone registration is recommended, just call (815) 713-5502 or (708) 429-7764.
