Trip to the Track, Family Movie Fun, Walk or Run for Little Ones: This Weekend

Walk or run in support of little ones with heart problems, enjoy a movie with the fam, take a trip to the track: this weekend in Orland and Palos.

Friday 

Field Trip to Arlington Race Track

Looking for a little Friday afternoon fun? Unexpected day off? Head over to Jenny's Steakhouse in Chicago Ridge, for a trip to Arlington Race Track. For $50, enjoy food at Jenny's around 12:30 p.m., before heading to the track at 1:30. Cost includes transportation, refreshments on the bus and a general admission ticket. Friday Night Live at Bridge Teen Center

Settle in with the Fam for a Movie

Free Verizon Wireless Workshop 
Verizon Wireless is offering a free wireless workshop about 
the Android operating system at the company’s Orland Park store, located at 9264 W. 159th St., on Saturday, August 17 from 7:30-8:30 a.m. 
Reservations are required by registering online. Seating is limited.

Family Fun Day at Calvary Church
Come out and enjoy carnival games, food, raffles and much more at the 2nd annual free Family Fun Day being held at Calvary Church of Orland Park. A fun time for all ages, as there will be things to do for everyone.  At 10:30 a.m. and 11:45 a.m., Illusionist Frank O'Neal will perform magic tricks to fans of all ages. Then at 1:45 p.m. and 3 p.m., visit creatures up close and personal as the World of Reptiles comes to Calvary. For the teens and young adults, Christian heavy-metal band will perform at 3 p.m. To top off the day, everyone is welcome at 4 p.m. to join the New Hope Saturday Night Church Service.


Sunday

Enjoy Summer Singspiration Concert

Faith United Methodist Church of Orland Park will present Summer Singspiration, a concert of sacred and secular music,  being presented in the church sanctuary, located at 15101 80th Avenue in Orland Park at 3 p.m. The show will feature a mass combined choir of singers from area churches. The concert is free and open to the public.  A free will offering will be taken with all proceeds being donated to The Crisis Center for South Suburbia, a non-profit organization that provides emergency residential shelter for women and children forced to flee the violence of their homes.

The concert musical director is Rolf Moan, the choir director at Faith and the former choral director at Stagg High School.  Rolf has put together a program featuring show tunes and popular sacred favorites that will appeal to a wide variety of choral enthusiasts. 

Walking for Little Hearts: 1K or 5K at Moraine Valley, 8 a.m.

1 in 110 babies are born with a Congenital Heart Defect (CHD), #1 birth defect in the U.S. Join supporters and walk in honor of CHD heroes and angels. Why participate in this walk? Proceeds from this walk support our Care Bags Program. The program delivers 80+ care bags each month to 5 Chicago Children's Hospitals (Advocate-Park Ridge, Advocate Oak Lawn, Comer's, Lurie's and Rush Hospital), in addition to Angel Boxes to CHD angel families that have lost a child due to a congenital heart defect. Kids walk free! $15 for each adult. Fundraise over $50 to receive a MLHC water bottle and fundraise over $100 to receive a MLHC T-Shirt. Register online.
