Chief Timothy McCarthy helms the Orland Park Police Department, which is comprised of 97 full-time and eight part-time sworn officers. Orland Park Police enforces in the area between 131st Street to US Interstate 80, and from Will Cook Road to Oak Park Avenue, excluding Orland Hills and the northwest part of Tinley Park.
The department is broken into several units within investigations, technical, communications, administration and patrol divisions. Those include Internet crimes, bike patrol, K-9, the Major Crime Team and eight beats focused on different regions of the village.
Chief McCarthy chairs the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force, a collective effort between 36 Illinois police departments and the Cook County Sheriff's Office to pool resources while investigating homicides, drug-related crimes and other serious cases. Orland Police also participates in the South Suburban Emergency Response Team, a multi-jurisdiction unit made up of 34 Illinois police departments for cases involving hostages, disasters and terrorism.
