Here is an answer to the question, without reading the article. I will let the jury decide in aRead More court of law and ignore the one sided reporting that is sure to follow. I choose ot ignore the extension of the government known as mainstream media.

All five Chicago schools are magnets with selective enrollment. Stevenson has some advantageRead More because of sheer size and # of AP tests the students there take. I still think that Df and HP are more desirable because of their slightly smaller size.

Plainfield central is unranked. Scores are about the same as Joliet West.

So the questions are: "What does #1 do that's better than HPHS? How can HPHS improve? What'sRead More holding us back?" Compare and contrast.

I think everyone has a memory of their first time at Wrigley field to watch the Cubs suck. It's aRead More Chicago family tradition!
Paul Shafer April 23, 2014 at 11:35 am
The Cubs are spending longer rebuilding than it took us to rebuild Germany after WWII.

Cops got a chance to play with their toys. Relax people. It's not like you had to respondRead More personally. Stop saying it's a waste of money. Then money is absolutely minimal. These guys were not called away from their golf games. I would also like to compliment the responders for not accidentally killing someone. It showed professionalism and did not add to the "trend" of killing "innocent" people; which is becoming an issues to watch. The people incensed over this should focus their anger on plastic shopping bags as many others are doing over at another great Patch piece. Evil lurks at the checkout counters across America!

Linda Mahoney >> the doorbell prank was just that, a prank, that involved actual self risk,Read More courage and cost nothing to do. these brats today have no respect for wasting resouces whilst sitting ontheir fanny all day.

Even if we threw them in jail their brainless voting bases would still reelect them.

Illinois is one of the top most corrupt states in the USA. I have two more years in this GodRead More forsaken state, then after my daughter finishes school, I'm out of here! My home may be paid off, but I still pay at least $500 a month for property taxes--and I live in the older section with a 55 year old house!!

Shameful! The audacity to want more is as bold as cat manure. They sell the lottery, lease theRead More toll way, to their friends, all the while saying they need more money. This really stinks.

What a load of crap! All they had to do was say, "No thank you" and walk away. BadRead More knee....yeah, ok!

A bad knee that randomly kicks those with which one is displeased sounds perfectly legit... Lol!Read More Glad he decided to press charges. That was inexcusable.

Minority who cares April 23, 2014 at 01:39 pm
Ok you really did not read the statement. Plus i was born and raised in Chicago. Tell me would youRead More feel this way if it was you or someone you love. Or is this being said because he is not white. Compaired to the sex offenders who are white in orland, he is the only one who really doesn't deserve the label sex offender. Look up your sex offenders you have 8, and 7 of them had sex with children under 12 and they where all adults at the time, the other sex offender rapped a 50 year old woman. But who am i to point all of this out.
Tony April 23, 2014 at 05:43 pm
There's an excuse here for every incident. Seems to be a pattern? Sex offenders are loathed so getRead More accustomed to that abuse as NO ONE wants it near them. And Pulling the race card...that won't work here lady! Probably should pull up stakes and head back to WI and live happily ever after with the man of your dreams
Minority who cares April 23, 2014 at 06:16 pm
Tony, no one is saying race is the main issue here. And you are right sex offenders are loathed,Read More but everyone who is labeled a sex offender is not a child predator. His so called victim even to this day says she is not a victim. And that's no excuse.
The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday upheld Michigan's ban on affirmative action in college admissions.

@Black Panther of Poetry What do you see that is racist about my comment?
Seamus Carty April 23, 2014 at 05:44 pm
Why do we discriminate based on race to show that discrimination based on race is wrong?
Seamus Carty April 23, 2014 at 05:47 pm
"The goal of Affirmative was to right an over two hundred years wrong." My family did notRead More get to the US until 1948. Are we part of the two hundred years of wrong? Why should my orthopedic surgeon's kid get preferential treatment over my nephew (son of a plumber) based on the relative complexions?
Everyday Mathematics is just one of the programs that makes a heck of a lot of $ off of the millions of textbooks sold to schools that teach to the 'Core.' The Common Core isn't just restricting for teachers & students, it's lining people's pockets.
Gary Tobin April 23, 2014 at 03:47 pm
National Governor’s Association and the Council of Chief State School Officers are private,Read More no-profit organizations. They are NOT government agencies. Therefore the STATES DO NOT OWN THE RIGHTS TO CCSS.
Matt Miller April 23, 2014 at 03:53 pm
So educational professionals and people that hire these students out of college or high schoolRead More shouldn't have a seat at the table? Who should make curriculum decisions? The local school board member that doesn't know anything about a high quality education? The state government that might think creationism and abstinence only education is still what our children should be learning? I'd rather have the Common Core which brought together education professionals from all of the states to make sure my kids have a leg up when they graduate High School. They also brought in companies that have decades of education or hiring experience. What's wrong with having people that know what they are talking about, setting our policy? I'd rather have professionals making these decisions and not some groups that create facebook pages and youtube videos demonizing Common Core because they don't want to listen to the facts.
Bonnie Parker April 23, 2014 at 04:12 pm
In the time some of you have spent obsessing about this, you probably could have home-schooled yourRead More kids a couple of grades. I don't know what you're so het up about, but I suspect it's not the quality of your kids' education.

I'm quite happy with Obama. Another four yrs would be fine.
Gary April 23, 2014 at 05:19 pm
OK. It's agreed then. We build a temporary Obama Presidential library in Chicago for about $10,000Read More and then tear it down after 4 years. Is everyone on board, yes, good. Let's do it.
Gary April 23, 2014 at 05:20 pm

Innocent until proven guilty! Let's see, what country proudly proclaims such such an ideal? ThisRead More 'witness' waited 15 years to come forward. I say he failed that child terribly by not reporting what he saw to the police rigth away. Now, a decade and a half later he remembers the minute details of this alleged abuse. Forgive me my cynicism, but I'm thinking there has got be money involved here. Lastly, yes have the priest investigated about these newest allegations and if there is enough evidence then prosecute him to the fullest extent of the law and if found guilty, punish him accordingly; however, should it become apparent that the newest 'witness' was lying (whether in collusion with SNAP or not), then prosecute him (and SNAP if the colluded) to the fullest extent of the law. Maybe that way we will be able to find the real molesters of children - and not participate in the character assassination of innocent people for sake of the almight dollar.

Netflix is hands down the best deal going, and it has been a bargain for YEARS. I guess theRead More nonsensical whiners who complain about a long-delayed, $2 a MONTH increase are worried it will cost them a (partial) SINGLE LATTE. Utterly ridiculous.

TO MICHAEL BRENNICK: Leftist, Democra... WHAT? You think Comcast is part of the so-calledRead More "liberal" media (which, by the way, doesn't even exist)? Are you freakin' KIDDIN' me? [shakes head in disbelief] Wow. The FOX NEWS CHANNEL should be held criminally liable for what it has done to your brain.

FOR THOSE WHO LIKE AMAZON PRIME OVER NETFLIX: Here's an interesting article from today (23 Apr 2014)Read More about how Amazon Prime just got HBO to stream at least some of its older content, plus "HBO GO," to Amazon's new Fire TV box, thereby making NetFlix upset because NetFlix (nor any other streaming service, including HULU) has never been able to get any HBO content; and so Amazon has scored a real coup!
