Thousands At OP Chick-fil-A Supporting Free Speech and ‘Traditional’ Marriage

In the wake of Chick-fil-A president’s gay marriage statement, with mayors in Boston and San Francisco telling the company to open elsewhere, a massive crowd showed Wednesday in support of the Orland Park franchise.

The wait around 3 p.m. Wednesday was two hours through a winding line at Orland Park Chick-fil-A’s parking lot just to get to the front door. “I like their view on marriage and I believe we should have the freedom to at least express our views on it,” said Susan Soulian, who drove an hour from Wilmington to wait in the long line. “That’s all they did. You can’t let a business not set up because of a different viewpoint.” Soulian was among a steady flow of people numbering in the thousands who appeared at the Orland Park Chick-fil-A franchise throughout Wednesday, to show support after public officials denounced the company’s stance against gay marriage. The fallout, including Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s own statement about the company’s …

That is the very point I am making. No matter the issue, liberals, especially Liberals holding public office, demand 100% compliance with their political agenda or they will use the power of their office to make life very difficult for you. Speak out against any Iiberal initiative and suddenly you are having a zoning problem, etc. unemployment and underemployment are at historic levels. We need …   more ›

Last Chance to Sign Up for Chick-fil-A Leadercast

Crystal Tree Country Club is one of many locations around the country hosting the event, where speakers from an assortment of professions will be heard to inspire attendees.

The Orland Park Area Chamber of Commerce will host a broadcasting site for the 2012 Chick-fil-A Leadercast on Friday at Crystal Tree Golf and Country Club. There is still time to get a spot, but the space is limited and locations are selling out. The yearly event, which includes a live broadcast of speakers including CNN’s Soledad O’Brien and NFL quarterback Tim Tebow, is meant to spark empowerment and leadership qualities among attendees. “We have coaches that are personal trainers, motivational coaches, business/personal/success coaches, even a franchise coach who authored a new book,” said event organizer and emcee Renee Tabor. Ticket price includes continental breakfast, plated lunch and a business after hours immediately after the …

Prairie PFE's September Family Fun Night: A Back to School Mixer

What do you get when you mix 100 families, a sunny afternoon, the Chick-fil-A Cow, sidewalk chalk drawings and coloring pages for the troops? Tons of fun, that’s what!

Prairie School’s Parents For Education (PFE) hosted a Family Fun Night Sept. 15 and welcomed in the new school year with family friendly activities. Kathy Bauer, the parent who organized the event, said she hoped “the families would come out, have a good time and get to know one another in the process.”  Judging by the smiles on everyone’s faces, the afternoon was a huge success. To the kids' delight, the Chick-fil-A Cow was “moo”ving around the playground and greeting the Prairie families. Sidewalk chalk squares were set up for families to demonstrate their artistic chalk drawing abilities. Children also had the opportunity to complete coloring pages to send to the troops overseas compliments of the Orland Park Prairie. Many families that…

What's It Take to Open Your Very Own Chick-Fil-A?

Chick-fil-A representatives share the inside scoop on how you can get into an owner/operator role with the company.

There are seemingly countless franchise restaurants throughout the Chicago area where customers can stop in or drive through to grab a bite to eat. In the past year, though, one franchise's arrival on the food landscape has drawn a lot of attention—Chick-fil-A. The Atlanta-based chicken sandwich franchise has opened three suburban locations—including one in Orland Park—in addition to one in Chicago, near Loyola University. With its spokes-cows advising the nation to “Eat Mor Chikin,” the chain has brought its unique southern-fried hospitality to the area. The first Chick-fil-A restaurant opened in Atlanta in 1967 under the ownership of founder Truett Cathy. The goal from the beginning was clear: Make a great chicken sandwich and provide …

Chick-fil-A Clues In Potential Chicagoland Operators

Restaurant chain holds seminar outlining the ins and outs of what it takes to be an owner of a Chick-fil-A.

Now that the Chick-fil-A restaurant chain has made its way to the Chicago area—including one in Orland Park that opened last October—expansion plans are under way and operators are being sought to spearhead the chicken invasion. With that in mind, the company held a Chick-fil-A Franchised Operator Information Seminar on Monday at the Chicago Marriott Northwest in Hoffman Estates. The seminar was more of a get-to-know-the-company event than a sales pitch seeking investors, something the representatives from Chick-fil-A were quick to point out. Although just about anybody can apply to be an operator with the company, Chick-fil-A has an arduous application process that is more like a college entrance exam crossed with a job application rather…

Saintly Savory: Chick-fil-A President Talks Business Ethics at Trinity Christian College

Company leaders draw service and commercial inspiration from the words of Christ, and consider their chain of restaurants a burgeoning ministry where Sunday and Monday are reconciled.

It can be said that the key to Jesus Christ's longevity is his ability to inspire action and reflection while reinforcing oneself. For some Marxists, He was a socialist revolutionary. For Thomas Jefferson, He was a philosopher. And for certain Mahayana Buddhists, He was another Bodhisattva in a long line of avatars. But for the heir of one of the nation’s largest fast food franchises, Christ was the archetypal restauranteur. “Jesus had a lot to say about the market place,” said Dan Cathy, president and COO of Chick-fil-A, after his lecture Wednesday on business ethics at Trinity Christian College in Palos Heights. “He had to a lot to say about money and finances...He loved to cook, He loved to eat and He loved to use food in that …

I find it impossible to believe that the legendary Christ -- a man who, according to several translations of the bible, tossed the tables of street vendors for selling animals for religious sacrifice; a man who never sought a quick or cheap profit in his supposed existence; and a man who believers now give up meat for in honor of his death -- is an authority on the restaurant industry. Moreover, …   more ›

Rundown, Oct. 24-30: Allan Kustok Indicted and One More Hero in the Classroom

We take a look back at the recent Kustok court hearing, hundreds braving the cold for free Chick-fil-A and a local gas chain filing for bankruptcy.

Allan Kustok spent the better part of his indictment on Monday staring at the ground as Judge Raymond Jagielski re-read the murder charge against him in connection to the death of his wife Anita "Jeanie" Kustok. Zak Kustok and his relatives were at the hearing in support and still maintain that Allan is innocent. The Smith and Wesson .357 Magnum thought to be the murder weapon is a powerful gun, capable of hunting bears. The gun, originally built as a more powerful option for police, was a strange choice for an anniversary gift in 2009. While stations remain open, Gas City filed for bankruptcy on Tuesday, citing debts far past revenues.  Another established chain was ready for business on Thursday, with the Orland Park branch of Chick-fil-…
