Oh what fresh heck is this? Google: Tom Cunningham Orland. His histrionic and disparaging realities (both personal and professional) are well documented and speak loud and clear for themselves. Not cheerful reading at all. Challenge his win. I implore you. Stop him before he is sworn into office. Just read through his history and see what countless people know and what they have said. D230 Candidates on Changing District Boundaries

Five of the eight candidates seeking a seat on the Consolidated High School District 230 Board of Education share their thoughts on the district’s recent redistricting and its effects on students and schools.

The following question was asked of candidates campaigning for a seat on the Consolidated High School District 230 Board of Education in Patch’s election questionnaire. Answers are listed in the order they were received. What are your thoughts on recent redistricting? Should students be able to go where their families originally planned or does the need to balance school population come first, and why? Anthony Catalano, Jr. Back in 1989, the district was facing a similar issue of redistricting that was done to alleviate overcrowding at Andrew and low enrollment at Stagg. Now 24 years later we are looking at a similar issue of balancing district resources and student population. The issue of redistricting has the possibility to help the …

Pat, that's not the way works. The low income kids are heavily concentrated at Stagg, with 29.5% of the students classified as "low income". This compares to 10% at Sandburg and 14% at Andrew. The "White" percentage at the schools is pretty even, but that's just a matter of geography. Of course Middle eastern students are considered "white" in this category, but if they were considered "minority…   more ›

D230 Candidates on Funding the School District

Five of the eight candidates seeking a seat on the Consolidated High School District 230 Board of Education share their views on how to meet costs with dwindling state funds, while maintaining standards.

The following question was asked of candidates campaigning for a seat on the Consolidated High School District 230 Board of Education in Patch’s election questionnaire. Answers are listed in the order they were received. Revenue from the state is drying up. Rank the following in order of importance: 1) Staff Cuts 2) Contract Renegotiations 3) Operating Expense Cuts 4) Tax Increases or Other Funding Sources. Explain your reasoning. Anthony Catalano, Jr. We are fortunate to be living in a district whereas according to the 2012 Office of the Superintendent Financial Report, District 230 receives 80% of revenue from property taxes and in 2011, Standard and Poor’s improved the district’s creditworthiness on its outstanding debt. Each of these …

D230 Students Expected to Start School 30 Mins Earlier in August

The Consolidated High School District 230 administration is looking to create an advisory/resource period for all students by starting studies at 8 a.m. instead of 8:30 a.m. beginning in August.

In effort to extend tutoring and other services beyond class work help, Consolidated High School District 230 administrators are planning to start school days 30 minutes earlier during the 2013-2014 school year. Freshmen and sophomores at Carl Sandburg High School, Amos Alonzo Stagg High School and Victor J. Andrew High School now have access to a 25-minute advisory period during the day with the same teacher, but the change would expand the program to all students and also add variety to the study period. With current bus schedules, not all students can take advantage of the program, said D135 spokesperson Carla Erdey. “We’re looking at making sure the same opportunities are available for all students, as well as meeting with teachers, …

D230 to Start Search for Next Sandburg Athletic Director

Consolidated High School District 230 are looking within their ranks and outside for a new candidate to fill the large shoes left behind by Bruce Scheidegger. In the meantime, current staff are picking up the slack, according to The Regional News.

Finding the right candidate to replace Carl Sandburg High School’s beloved athletic director Bruce Scheidegger may take some time. While Consolidated High School District 230 is preparing to start searching for the right candidate, Sandburg’s physical education department chair Steve McInerney is serving as the interim athletic director with help from Mike Polz, Sandburg’s assistant athletic director, according to a report by Jeff Vorva for The Regional News. Scheidegger died after his car went off the road in rural Carroll County. He was remembered by hundreds in tributes since his passing. A timeline hasn’t yet been set for the search. D230 board president Frank Grabowski said the search will include candidates from within and outside …
