Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart releases a surveillance video that purports to show a corrections officer didn't slip and fall as he claimed in a workers compensation claim.
Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart wants you to know he's keeping an eye on the "duty injury king" — a corrections officer known among his peers for submitting false injury claims while on the job — and others like him. The sheriff's office released a video tape Wednesday that purports to show the time and location where a corrections officer claimed he slipped and fell, injuring his back on Nov. 20. The officer is now suspended without pay, and the sheriff wants to press criminal charges. The sheriff's office's claim about the video states: On November 20th of last year a Correctional Officer submitted a false injury report claiming that he sustained a back injury while returning from transporting a detainee. He reported to other staff the he …

Law enforcement officials are urging people to watch for burglars posing as home repair, utility or village workers who gain entry to people’s homes and then steal their valuables.
The Cook County Sheriff’s Office is urging residents, especially senior citizens, to be wary of people claiming to be home repair, utility or village workers, but who have no identification and show up to homes without an appointment made. In one of the more recent cases, a 75-year-old woman living in the 11000 block of West 167th Street of unincorporated Orland Township was burglarized Friday between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. by a man who claimed to be a ComEd electrician, and was let into the woman’s house, according to a release from the sheriff’s office. The man did not show identification. Often with such situations, the burglars work in teams of at least two people, where one will distract the home owner or resident, while another steals …

Mark Williamson, 46, pleaded not guilty to charges after he was accused of seriously beating his father, and was also barred from having any contact with him after a Cook County judge issued a protection order.
An Orland Park man pleaded not guilty to felony attempted murder, aggravated battery and unlawful restraint Thursday, after he was accused of beating and strangling his 78-year-old father, according to police. Mark Williamson has also been ordered to stay away from his father after Judge Colleen Ann Hyland granted prosecutors' request for an order of protection. At a preliminary hearing in early December, the father testified that he was strangled by his son but a 'demon' was responsible for the attack. Williamson is in custody without bond. The father was not present during Thursday's hearing. Sherie L. Dedore, an assistant state's attorney with the Seniors and Persons with Disabilities Unit, said the protection order is needed because …

The father of an Orland Park man charged with attempted murder said a demon with "slanted eyes and a blue-green face" caused his son to beat and strangle him.
OUTSIDE CHICAGO, IL -- A 78-year-old local man testified in court Thursday that a demon caused his son to attack, choke and beat him. During a probable cause hearing that lasted more than 30 minutes in Judge Peter Felice's Bridgeview courtroom, George Williamson of Orland Park at times seemed reluctant to accuse his son, 46-year-old Mark Williamson, who has been charged with attempted murder and battery for the Nov. 11 incident — instead blaming the demon. Mark Williamson took care of his father, who has emphysema and heart disease, testimony revealed. A public defender for Mark Williamson pointed out mental issues, saying he has not been taking his medication and hinted that he may use alcohol to self-medicate. Sherie L. Dedore, an …

In response to the post Wanted for Child Support Delinquency, April 6, several Patch commenters took issue with the way the system treats men. Kevin Foster writes: "If you are a man in Illinois, you have absolutely no father rights. Courts are so pro-woman it isn't even funny. Equality my pink butt." James Wagner writes: "How about posting the pictures and address of the vindictive, selfish, scorned "Ex" who continue to take the non-custodial parents to court who paid in excess of support owed??? Instead of wasting the taxpayers' and court system's time, and padding the bank accounts of these low life legalized thiefs they call "Divorce Attorneys"? And Kathleen Austin writes: "The article lists a woman, as well. There are many horror …
