Firehouse Subs in Orland Park will be supporting Palos Heights-based Elim Christian Services Thursday, by donating 15 percent of all sales between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. A client from Elim works at Firehouse, which one of several reasons the local eatery decided to support them. “The whole point is to treat everyone as equals, as human beings, with dignity and respect,” said William Vandebilt, co-owner of Firehouse Subs. “It’s about doing good for this organization that has interest in community.” Firehouse Subs is at 15892 LaGrange Road in the Lakeview Shopping Center. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Join Patch! During Firehouse Subs' grand opening in Orland Park, members of AllenForce and Healthy Minds Healthy Bodies demonstrated an advanced motorized chair, capable of great versatility on different terrains.
Firehouse Subs in Orland Park held their grand opening last weekend. A major goal for owners William and Christine Vanderbilt is to support the community, including veterans. During their grand opening, members from AllenForce, a non-profit focused on helping veterans transition to civilian life, demonstrated one of their programs, Healthy Minds Healthy Bodies. The program helps pair veterans with resources they need to physically, mentally and emotionally adjust to life after combat. While at Firehouse Subs, Luis Flores with HMHB demonstrated an advanced motorized chair with tank treads, capable of traversing an array of different grounds, including snow. Firehouse Subs holds grand opening • Blackberry's reopens in Tinley • Vera Bradley eyes Orland store.
Tinley Park has become a hot spot for college campuses even with the impending demise of Sanford-Brown College. Chamberlain College of Nursing is the latest institution of higher education to settle in Tinley Park at 18624 W. Creek Drive in the same building at DeVry University. The Tinley location is the 13th campus for the school, which has been training nurses for 122 years. The campus will offer bachelor of science of nursing degrees and offers year-round study. Students could earn degrees in three years. The college features nursing skill labs, a coronary care unit, an obstetrics area, pediatric beds, two general skills labs and a health assessment lab. A chorus of “Welcome to Firehouse” carries through the new Orland Park restaurant when a customer walks in, even during a busy lunch rush. “That’s part of the culture,” said co-owner William Vanderbilt. “We want people to feel at home.” Firehouse Subs opened on Dec. 28 at 15892 LaGrange Road in the Lakeview Shopping Center. The restaurant serves a variety of sandwiches, several with steamed meat and cheese. While customers pick through about 20 different sandwiches, as well as salads, soup and sides, staff members often offer their own favorite selections. Ross Dress for Less, a California-based off-price retailer, will be opening a new store next year at Brookside Marketplace in Tinley Park. The 23,344-square-foot store will be built on vacant land between the Best Buy parking lot and a retail strip that houses Sally Beauty Supply, Massage Envy, CiCi Nails and Performance Dental. Construction is expected to start in the spring with an opening later in the year.
