As Father's Day approaches, Nabeha Zegar starts dropping little hints to her four children to be on the lookout for something their dad might like for his big day. The Orland Park mom recently overheard a conversation between her husband and daughter about his favorite fruit. When asked which one was his favorite, he said mangoes. Following the fruit inquisition, the girl turned to her mom and flashed a double thumbs up. Her Father's Day gift was in the bag, or rather, in the basket. Volunteers worked to pack about 225 gift bags for people in need, for Orland Township's adoption program for the holidays.
Volunteers worked in Orland Township throughout the middle week of December to create about 225 gift and food bags for people in need during the holidays. Marianne Hill, coordinator for the Orland Township Food Pantry, said they received a higher number of requests for toys and food this year than in other recent holiday seasons. But several area businesses, organizations and individual volunteers answered the call. Copious donations were sent to help ease the added stress of providing during a holiday season that coincides with troubled economic times. The bags will be distributed on Dec. 16.
