After trailing 20-10 at halftime, the Eagles call on a stout defense to slam the door in first-round playoff victory.
It was a tale of two halves in the opening-round Class 8A football game between 10th-seeded Proviso West and seventh-seeded Sandburg on Friday night. The Panthers (6-4, 3-3) were dominant in the first half. They led 20-10 thanks to a pair of touchdowns from Malik Thurman, their dynamic running quarterback. He scored on bursts of 14 and 44 yards. Thurman contributed most of Proviso West's offense on the night, rushing 15 times for 111 yards. He also completed 9-of-15 passes for 136 yards. Running back Jamaal Payton added another rushing touchdown late in the first quarter on a fourth-and-goal play from the 2. The Eagles (8-2, 5-2), looked anemic on offense and defense in the first half. Apart from a solid drive to start the game, they …

Harris' three-touchdown performance sparks Eagles in rout of Lincoln-Way Central, calls to mind the dominant play of his older brother Napoleon.
NEW LENOX –Little brother made like Big Brother. Jermell Harris scored three touchdowns in Sandburg's 42-6 football victory over Lincoln-Way Central on Friday night at Lashmet Field. One came on a 25-yard interception return that capped a second-quarter surge by the Eagles (4-1, 2-1) and called to mind the dominant play of his older brother. Napoleon Harris was a one-man wrecking crew during his high school heyday at Thornton. He went on to play collegiately at Northwestern and later spent time with the Oakland Raiders, Kansas City Chiefs and Minnesota Vikings in the NFL. Napoleon taught Jermell much of what he knows about football. And he knows the best players never like to come off the field. He didn't take many breathers until Sandburg…
