Police: Orland Square Shooter Was Not in Mall
After searching the mall until 2 a.m., Orland Park Police concluded the female fugitive who shot another woman in the JC Penney parking lot Friday night had fled.
Orland Park Police searched Orland Square Mall store by store for the shooter in an attempted Friday night armed robbery until 2 a.m. Saturday, but the woman was nowhere to be found, police said. The shooting, which sent a 67-year-old woman to the hospital, took place in the JCPenney parking lot at 8:55 p.m. Officers responded at 9:02 p.m., Orland Park Police Chief Tim McCarthy said on Friday night. But it appears those few minutes were enough for the woman to slip out of the mall some other way. "It looks like by the time the officers got there, she had left the scene," Lt. James Bianchi said.
