The news may not always be good, but in the last year a lot of people in the Orland Park area did great things for those around them. Look back at their efforts.
News reflects life, and life has its difficulties. But life also has triumphs, and great deeds done by people who remind us the world still hasn’t gone completely crazy. We created a section solely for such acts, called Orland Park Patch’s Greatest People. If you know of any efforts around the area, and not just in Orland Park, that you think would be a great addition to our roster, don’t hesitate to contact me at benjamin@patch.com. Now, take a look back at a handful of these efforts, and keep them in mind as we begin 2013, hopefully on the right foot. Rose Walsh spends much of her time helping other people at Orland Township, as well as through a volunteer group from St. Mike’s and in other ways. At age 76, she still has a lot more kindness to give.

Rose Walsh is on a simple, yet dedicated journey. When she comes across people she can help, she does so. Walsh is a regular volunteer for area churches, Orland Township and for anyone who needs a hand. “They give me more than I give them, but everyone tells me that’s not true,” Walsh said. “But it is that way for me. It’s just such an exciting thing when you know you’re doing something for someone, and they need you.” The 76-year-old resident of Orland Park since 1972 has built a busy schedule of volunteer work throughout the area. She assists with Orland Township’s immunization program, making records of shots after people receive them. A member of St. Michael Parish, Walsh participates with the church’s St. Vincent DePaul Society, …
