Steven Reynolds, of unincorporated Hinsdale, received a sentence that included 15 days of work-release and 30 months of probation.
A former Carl Sandburg High School coach from unincorporated Hinsdale pleaded guilty Monday to criminal sexual abuse of a 17-year-old female and was sentenced to 15 days in a work-release program and 30 months of probation. Steven Reynolds, 27, of the 600 block of 55th Street, was working as a substitute teacher and basketball coach at Sandburg in Orland Park when he was arrested on Feb. 6. He was charged with two counts of criminal sexual abuse after he made sexual contact with a 17-year-old female Sandburg student at his home on Jan. 28. The prosecution dropped one of those counts in exchange for the guilty plea. Cook County Judge John J. Hynes said Monday that evidence of other crimes in the case of Kevin Skaritka, who is charged with multiple counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault, will be allowed even though the defense argued it would be prejudicial.
A Cook County judge ruled Monday that evidence of other crimes in the case of Kevin Skaritka will be allowed in his trial, saying the evidence offered by prosecutors has “probative value that outweighs a prejudicial effect.” Skaritka, 35, of Orland Park has been charged with 14 counts of sexual assault and is accused of molesting his girlfriend’s teenage daughter and exposing himself to her between 2009 and May 2011. A jury trial set Monday for a man accused of sexually exploiting a teenage girl in both Orland Park and Palos Hills was postponed. Kevin Skaritka, 35, has pleaded not guilty to a 14-count indictment alleging he sexually exploited his girlfriend’s teenage daughter by assaulting her, exposing himself and showing her pornography inside their home. He and his attorney, Robert Callahan, are intending at trial to call witnesses who can provide an alibi for the dates and times between 2009 and 2011 that he is accused of molesting the girl. Documents amassed by a Seattle-based law firm show that although the Irish Christian Brothers knew one of its members may have molested students at Brother Rice High School, they still sent him to other schools. The allegations came to light after a bankruptcy filing by the Irish Christian Brothers in an attempt to cap any damages from former students filing claims alleging sexual or physical abuse by members of the religious order who taught at the high schools. A Carl Sandburg High School substitute teacher and basketball coach from unincorporated Hinsdale pleaded not guilty Monday in DuPage County court to two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a 17-year-old student. Authorities said Steven Reynolds, 26, was involved in acts with the student at his home in the 600 block of 55th Street on Jan. 28. He was arrested by the DuPage County Sherriff’s Office on Feb. 6, after information was given to the school administration by friends of the victim. Reynolds’ attorney, Joseph M.
