Vote in the Patch poll! You guarantee any golfer who sets foot on your favorite course will really get their money's worth. Tell us all about it and brag about your favorite courses in the Southland.
Golfers seek out the course that will get them the best round for their buck. For some, it's a GPS in the cart. Others flock to the course with the best pro shop, or most reasonably priced refreshments. For some, they prefer the location offering courses with varied levels of difficulty. Maybe it's the beverage service (beer cart, anyone?) that pleases a golfer, or even the chance to knock the dust off their cleats at a driving range before teeing off. Your favorite courses leave you satisfied with the experience—and preferably with more than a few bucks left in your pocket. Patch wants to know which course you feel is the best value in the Southland. Reviews count for half of the overall score in determining a winner. The reviews and …

Patch asked readers which local golf course offers the most unique holes around, and after two weeks of voting, a winner has emerged!
To the untrained eye, some golf courses can look an awful lot alike. But for the golfers who hit the links on a regular basis, the good ones stand out. Some designers clearly took more time to craft their course—a challenging dogleg, a par 4 you can reach from the tee. Or the first shot off the tee, that leads you to the next shot over a gorgeous lake into a narrow green with bunkers behind it. The unique holes take your breath away. We recently asked our readers which holes impress them most. Our readers voted the holes at Frankfort's Prestwick Country Club the most unique holes around. Did our Patch readers get it right?

Golfers have these folks to thank for keeping their favorite courses in tip-top shape—and after two weeks of voting, one grounds crew came out on top.
Golfers get to have all the fun on the Southland's finest courses—but only after the hardworking grounds crews work their magic. Hours before the first golfer even sets foot on the dewy greens, a dedicated crew is hard at work, sculpting scruffy fairways into works of art. The team mows greens, tees and fairways, changes the holes on the greens, moves tee markers and empties trash cans. They wake early to do their part to give golfers the best round possible. They're the ones who keep those greens impeccable. They rake bunkers, water playing areas, maintain flowers, shrubs and decorated spots and keep wooded areas cleared to facilitate play. We recently asked our readers which grounds crew impresses them every time. Our readers say Silver …
Some golf courses are unforgettable—the holes leave a lasting impression on each golfer that steps up to the tee. Which courses offer the most unique holes in the Southland?
For avid golfers who hit a lot of links, courses might all start to blur together. Some designers clearly took more time to craft their course—a challenging dogleg, a par 4 you can reach from the tee. Or the first shot off the tee, that leads you to the next shot over a gorgeous lake into a narrow green with bunkers behind it. The unique holes, they stand out. The view from the fairway takes your breath away. Some of the nation's most famous holes—like the seventh at Pebble Beach—are set against a backdrop unlike any other, like a rocky outcropping over the Pacific Ocean. Others expect the golfer to shoot their ball over a maintenance shed and dodge brutal bunkers (17th at St. Andrew in Scotland). Southland courses come with their own …

Some golf courses offer tougher drives than others—and Patch asked its readers which ones leave them holding their breath after the ball leaves the tee.
When it comes to playing a round, golf courses in the Southland range in difficulty from "I got this," to "How in the heck...?" Your favorite courses offer the perfect mix of straight shots and tough doglegs. The tough shots leave golfers shaking in their cleats and pensively eyeing the ball on the tee. Patch asked its readers which courses offer the most intimidating drives, and after two weeks of voting, a winner has emerged. Oak Forest's George W. Dunne National Golf Course Forest Preserve was voted as having the toughest drives around. George Dunne received about 18 percent of the votes, and one reader noted in the comments that the fourth hole, in particular, was pretty tough. The feedback helped push Dunne ahead of its competition…

Looking out over pristine greens on a hazy summer morning, golfers have these folks to thank—the ones who do the backbreaking work to keep golf courses in beautiful, tip-top shape.
Some golfers might tee off as early as possible in the mornings, but they're still not the first to arrive at the course. Hours before the first golfer even sets foot on the dewy greens, a dedicated grounds crew is hard at work, sculpting scruffy fairways into works of art. The team mows greens, tees, and fairways, changes the holes on the greens, moves tee markers and empties trash cans. They wake early to do their part to give golfers the best round possible. They're the ones who keep those greens impeccable. They rake bunkers, water playing areas, maintain flowers, shrubs and decorated spots and keep wooded areas cleared to facilitate play. And we bet you know the best around. Which course comes with the best grounds crew? Reviews …

Patch asked for our readers' recommendations on the golf course with the best greens, and after two weeks of voting, Prestwick Country Club came out on top.
Local golfers' favorite courses have mastered the combination of greens speed, undulations, trueness of roll and firmness. You're looking for the course without ball divots, uneven green speeds and the dreaded dead patches. We asked for readers' picks of the best greens in the Southland, and after two weeks of voting, ladies and gentlemen, Patch has a winner. Our Patch readers say Prestwick Country Club has the most-loved greens in the area. The Frankfort country club offers greens one reader called, "manicured to perfection." The greens at Prestwick will make you cry. They are rolled to perfection. They break in ways that seem impossible. They are, by far, the best greens I have played. — Greg M. Prestwick CC has a GREAT course. Big trees…
You aren't able to hit the links as often as you would like, and there are just some courses you know to avoid because those drives? They get you every time. Which courses offer the most intimidating drives?
You're standing on the first tee. You didn't get in quite as many practice shots as you would have liked. Ahead, you see nothing but treelines and bunkers on both sides of the fairway. All you can hope is that the ball flies straight and you don't slice into a bunker or hook into the woods. When it comes to playing a round, golf courses in the Southland range in difficulty from "I got this," to "How in the heck...?" Your favorite courses offer the perfect mix of straight shots and tough doglegs, but Patch wants to know which course's drives leave you holding your breath after the ball leaves the tee? Patch asked for our readers' recommendations on the best golf course to start a beginner, and after two weeks of voting, Silver Lake pulled away as the winner.
For golfers who are just getting started, the right course could get them hooked—and the wrong one could make them bury the clubs in the back of the garage. Our Patch readers know all the best fairways, the trickiest water holes and the best-kept greens. For newcomers to the game, playing a tough course can be as daunting as tracking the ball looking into the sun. They're looking for a challenge, but don't want to hold up the foursome behind them. So where should you take the inexperienced golfer in your group? Our readers say Silver Lake Country Club is the perfect place to play. Players can choose from three courses at the Orland Park country club, which snagged just under half of the total votes in our poll. Readers talked it up in …

Vote in the Patch poll! You love your course for its well-manicured, uniformly brushed, divot-less greens—tell us all about it and brag about your favorite courses in the Southland.
Few things can spoil a round of golf quicker than unkempt greens. Ball divots, uneven green speeds and, not to mention, dead patches can quickly send golfers searching for the 19th hole. Your favorite courses have mastered the combination of greens speed, undulations, trueness of roll and firmness. Patch wants to know which course's greens keep you shooting for par. Reviews count for half of the overall score in determining a winner. The reviews and poll votes will be tallied and factor into the naming of "The Course with the Best Greens in the South Suburbs." Prestwick is a private course, they will always beat out a public course in any pole. Most people cant afford to belong to a private course so I think its kind of a meaningless survey. You should probably be asking for opinions on the best public access course that give the best value for the money.   more ›
