Former Sandburg Coach Sentenced After Pleading Guilty to Criminal Sexual Abuse

Steven Reynolds, of unincorporated Hinsdale, received a sentence that included 15 days of work-release and 30 months of probation.

A former Carl Sandburg High School coach from unincorporated Hinsdale pleaded guilty Monday to criminal sexual abuse of a 17-year-old female and was sentenced to 15 days in a work-release program and 30 months of probation. Steven Reynolds, 27, of the 600 block of 55th Street, was working as a substitute teacher and basketball coach at Sandburg in Orland Park when he was arrested on Feb. 6. He was charged with two counts of criminal sexual abuse after he made sexual contact with a 17-year-old female Sandburg student at his home on Jan. 28. The prosecution dropped one of those counts in exchange for the guilty plea. Agreement Reached in Sandburg Coach's Sexual Abuse Case, Sentence to Come

The substitute teacher from unincorporated Hinsdale, charged with criminal sexual abuse stemming from a Jan. 28 incident involving a 17-year-old female Carl Sandburg High School student, will likely be sentenced next month after it was announced Monday his attorney has reached a plea agreement with prosecutors. Steven E. Reynolds, 27, of the 600 block of 55th Street, was serving as a sub and freshman basketball coach at Sandburg in Orland Park, when he was arrested by the DuPage County Sheriff's Office on Feb. 6 and charged with two felony counts of criminal sexual abuse. Sex Abuse Court Case for Former Sandburg Coach Continues

A substitute teacher from unincorporated Hinsdale charged with criminal sexual abuse of a 17-year-old student was in court Wednesday for a second status hearing since pleading not guilty to two felony counts at his arraignment in March. Steven E. Reynolds, 27, of the 600 block of 55th Street, was serving as a substitute teacher and freshman basketball coach at Carl Sandburg High School in Orland Park when he was arrested by the DuPage County Sheriff's Office on Feb. 6. He was charged after friends of the victim, a Sandburg student, told authorities about a Jan. 28 incident at Reynolds' home during which the alleged abuse occurred. Sandburg Basketball Coach Pleads Not Guilty to Sex Abuse Charges

An attorney for Steven Reynolds declined to comment about the case following Monday's court hearing.

A Carl Sandburg High School substitute teacher and basketball coach from unincorporated Hinsdale pleaded not guilty Monday in DuPage County court to two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a 17-year-old student. Authorities said Steven Reynolds, 26, was involved in acts with the student at his home in the 600 block of 55th Street on Jan. 28. He was arrested by the DuPage County Sherriff’s Office on Feb. 6, after information was given to the school administration by friends of the victim. Reynolds’ attorney, Joseph M. Teacher Released From Jail in Sex Abuse Case

Court records describe encounter with student as "voluntary."

A judge on Friday agreed to reduce the bail of a Carl Sandburg High School teacher and coach accused of sexually abusing a student. Steven Reynolds, 26, had been held on $250,000 bail, but the amount was lowered by Judge George Bakalis to $100,000 at a Friday morning hearing. Officials said Reynolds posted bond and was released from the DuPage County Jail Friday. He is charged with two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. Reynolds was arrested earlier this week after police investigated information about an incident with a female student at Reynolds’ home in late January.
